think.

"from the very start of education original thinking is discouraged and ready-made thoughts are put into people's heads...

the pathetic superstition prevails that by knowing more and more facts one arrives at knowledge of reality. hundreds of scattered and unrelated facts are dumped into the heads of students; their time and energy are taken up by learning more and more facts so that there is little left for thinking."
-erich fromm, escape from freedom

just somethin to think about amidst all these finals (if you have any room to think, that is). so much energy is devoted to school that when i'm done with it i have no more energy to actually learn, to create, to explore my world. sad, isn't it?

one bonus though-- reading erich fromm's books for my research paper has led me to these great quotes (among many others). maybe sometimes academia can lead us to discover sources that make us think beyond the numerous insignificant facts crammed in our brains.

i was also spiritually fed over the weekend. i am so grateful for general conference. it always gives me comfort and inspiration.

take some time to ponder and meditate, and pray. it will do you good. :)
